Electric Fields

Why does every charge create a field?

Because creating an electric field isn't an additional thing a charge does. It is part of what having electric charge means.

An electric charge is coupled to the electromagnetic field. Wherever the charge exists, its presence determines the field around it.

For a point charge:

E=k∣q∣r2E = k\frac{|q|}{r^2}E=kr2∣q∣

Double the charge, and the field doubles. Move twice as far away, and the field becomes four times weaker.
This is why the field is not merely a convenient drawing. It is measurable physical quantity that determines what force another charge would experience.
